Backyard in the Snow Globe

I got inspiration for this from another photograph I saw using a glass globe so I thought I would give one a try. One thing interesting thing about the processing part of this picture is that the globe actually flips the image upside down. So I had to use photoshop to flip the image in the globe. Sometimes you have to choose between technically accurate and the best artistic expression. As I was thinking of this picture some 7 years after I’ve taken it, I noticed several things have changed in the image. We no longer have the fire pit in that area and my daughter’s play house is no longer there. The swing set is still there, but starting to decay. It is interesting because the crystal ball now represents a look back in time. Warning about crystal balls: you cannot leave them exposed to the sunlight because they can act as a magnifying glass and can start a fire.
