This picture was taken at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle Washington. This was another shot taken on our trip to the Pacific Northwest. We were on the balcony of our room at sunset, which faced the Puget Sound. There were several sailboats coursing back and forth, but this cormorant caught my eye. It was a spectacle when not looking through the lens of a camera, but this is an example where the composition of a photos improves what you see with your eye. Specifically the composition allowed me to focus the picture on the comorant and the golden waves immediately surrounding and excluding all other distractions.
When I was planning our trip, I was mainly focusing the sites we would see and not so much on our accommodations. Our travel agent focused on planning our accommodations and picked the Edgewater Hotel. I knew nothing about it and had so had lower expectations, however, it was fascinating. It was in a prime location in Seattle and had been visited by many famous guests including The Beatles and Kurt Cobain. After we went, I was watching this YouTube video and immediately realized, “he is at the Edgewater Hotel!”.
